JIPENG YE

Openning Hours

Location

Blending playfulness with symbolism, Jipeng Ye transforms porcelain into surreal, story-filled sculpture.

Born in Liling, Hunan in 1965, Jipeng Ye is a senior arts and crafts artist of China and one of the most dynamic voices in contemporary porcelain. A graduate of the Hunan University of Arts and Crafts, he later deepened his artistic language at the China Academy of Art, where he specialized in traditional flower-and-bird painting—a sensibility that continues to inform his ceramic works today.

Ye’s career spans both fine art and industrial design: from serving as art director at Hunan Huaguang Printing Co., Ltd. to holding senior creative roles at Shangpin Industrial and Jinhuang Porcelain Industry. In 2014, he established his own studio, where he turned full focus to porcelain as an expressive medium.

His works, including the Fantasy Fish and Spots series, reflect a bold fusion of Eastern aesthetics and modern design thinking. Playful, symbolic, and technically masterful, his creations explore the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and dream. As a master tutor, visiting professor, and lifelong advocate for ceramic innovation, Ye’s influence extends from the kiln to the classroom—and increasingly, to collectors around the world.

The “Wandering” Series 1

Size: 33.5cm in diameter
Firing: Reduction flame 1380℃
Material: High-white porcelain
Place of origin: Liling, China
Description: The “Wandering” Series is the artist’s favorite work. Simple and ethereal, and goldfish is painted in underglaze color. With layers of shading, the reality and the emptiness are combined, representing traditional ink painting form of representing space on ceramic. It makes the picture rich in layers and reflects a state of unrestrained “wandering”.

The “Aura” Vase

Size: H30cm
Firing: Reduction flame 1380℃
Material: High-white porcelain
Place of origin: Liling, China
Description: The artist chooses a pet cat in common daily life as the subject of the painting. In traditional Chinese culture, there is a saying that “cats have five blessings” and “cats enter the land of blessings” and welcoming a cat into the house is known as “welcoming good fortune”. This work perfectly solves two of the most difficult issues in underglaze ceramic animal painting: one is the depiction of the eyes. The artist paints the eyes sparkling and brilliant. The other is the underglaze painting of hair. The artist paints layers of the hair distinct, three-dimensional, fluffy and full, showing that this is an auspicious cat full of vitality and attracting fortune. A circle of black-brown high-temperature glaze is applied to the mouth of the bottle, which complements the main picture and creates a harmonious overall aesthetic.
